Each year Airinmar, the leading independent global provider of innovative repair management support services and systems, releases an aviation themed calendar. The calendar is used to showcase images taken by one of Airinmar’s longest serving employees, Philip Hancock. Philip has worked for Airinmar for 18 years and attends numerous aviation events throughout the year to take photographs of a variety of different aircraft.
When asked about his passion for all things aviation Philip commented, “Most children’s first words are Mum or Dad, mine was apparently Spitfire. The sound of an aero engine or sight of a man made creation defying gravity has always been an irresistible attraction for me and I have been lucky enough to witness military spy planes, a space shuttle launch and the rarest of relics in the air, down to the more mundane but equally fascinating daily events at my local, Heathrow, since the mid 1970’s.
My first 35mm camera was my 13th birthday present, and until 2009 was still shooting Kodachrome 64 slide film recording my adventures for winter evening review years later. While I love digital these days for its ability to try lots of things in a short space of time without the extra expense there is no substitute for having researched the lighting and background before the action you really want to capture unfolds in front of you. I still find I am as selective about clicking the shutter as I was when you only had 36 shots in the camera before having to change film, and even now you know the best shot on the back of the camera when you see it and that it doesn’t need editing.”
